Bengaluru University Students protested overnight Demanding Ban on All Vehicles on Campus After Government Bus Runs Over Girl

T ension continued as students at the University campus protested overnight demanding ban on thoroughfare.

Hundreds of students sat on the road blocking the traffic and shouted slogans prompting the police disperse the agitated crowd.

Additional police personnel have been deployed at the campus to monitor law and order by DCP West,Laxman B Nimbargi,under ACP,T Kodandarama,PI,Manjunath and staff deployed at all gates more than 600 police personnel deployed for precautionary measures.

Meanwhile the police as part of crackdown detained students from hostel premises as preventive detention.

The condition of Shilpa Shri,22 continue to be critical said a senior officer.

The incident occurred on monday when she was run over by moving bus while she tried to board the BMTC bus at the campus.

She sustained serious injury and rushed to hospital followed by protest from student community at the campus.

Bangalore University,Vice Chancellor Dr Jayakar S M assured the students that the matter will be discussed with the state government.

Meanwhile, a second wave of protests also took place due to the police taking 15-20 protesting student leaders into custody.The detained protestors were later released by the police.

The victim,Shilpa,tried to board the BMTC bus to go to a department located next to the administrative building on the campus.

However, when the bus driver did not rest the vehicle,the first-year student slipped and went under its wheels.

The driver and the conductor of the vehicle left the bus and fled the spot following the accident.

The police,however,have managed to detain the driver and seize the bus.The student,a resident of the girls’ hostel of the campus, was moved to the Fortis hospital in Nagarbhavi for treatment of her injuries.

Her condition being critical, she had to undergo surgery and was shifted to the Fortis hospital in Bannerghatta.

Meanwhile DCP Traffic West,Kuldeep Kumar R Jain along with BBMP Traffic Engineering cell officials visited the spot to inspect the area and the BBMP officials immediately started painting the humps with precautionary for the visibility of public who pass from the campus.

For the precautionary measures to avoid accidents blinkers,Cat eye with other precautions were installed by officials for the safety of students.
