Three dying units responsible for contaminating Mylasandra lake resulted in death of hundreds of fish says Doddathoguru gram panchayat officials

Probe conducted by Doddathoguru gram Pachayath officials found that three dying units responsible for contaminating Mylasandra lake in Bengaluru south,resulted in death of hundreds of fish on Last Saturday.

Based on the complaint filed by Jagadish NM, secretary of the Gram Panchayath,the Electronic city police on Saturday registered case against owners of the dying units charging them under section 269 (unlawful or negligent act likely to spread infection of any disease) and section 277 (fouling water or public spring or reservoir).

Jagadish in his complaint,said that the incident of lake contamination came to light when Kanikraj,who had taken contract of fish farming in the lake complained to the gram panchayath that hundreds of fish have dead an floating in the lake .

Mr.Jagadish along with gram Panchayath officials visited the lake and found discolored water with foul smell emanating from the lake.

The officials followed the trail to one Kiolmeters in the surrounding area before zeroing in on the godown at Betadasanapura owned by Srinivasa.

Inquiry revealed that he had rented out the premises to Hamsa to run a cloth dying unit. .

Further inquiries also revealed two more dying units is operational in the area run by Velumani and Vediyappa at survey no.13 and survey 46.

The accused have not obtained required permission to run the dying units and directly letting the chemical water into the lake through storm water drain.

This is not only endangering acquatic species but also posin threat to the enviornment, he said.
