Dussehra is celebrated to commemorate the triumph of good over evil as Lord Rama killed Ravana on this day, according to Hindu mythology.
A major accident was averted on Wednesday during the Ravan Dahan event on the occasion of Dussehra in Haryana’s Yamunanagar where an 80-feet effigy of Ravana fell on the people gathered at the venue. Some people reportedly suffered minor injuries.
A video of the incident shared by news agency ANI showed a group of men approaching towards the nearly burnt effigy to collect the remains when the structure falls. Parts of the structure were still burning.
A Yamunanagar Police spokesperson said personnel deployed at the ground managed to push back a few of the spectators and residents should not pay heed to rumours on injuries.
He added that no spectator was injured and the celebrations ended at other places too, without any untoward incident.
Every year, Dussehra is celebrated to commemorate the triumph of good over evil as Lord Rama killed Ravana on this day, according to Hindu mythology.
The festival is being celebrated with full gusto across the country, by burning the effigies of Ravan, Kumbhkaran, and Meghnath, after a gap of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
