Alert Food Inspector of north division seized a truck transporting 40 quintals of PDS rice in Sanjay Nagar on Wednesday meant to be distributed to Anna Bhagya scheme .
The officer Nagaraj S,while on rounds noticed a mini truck carrying rice bags heading to city from Ballary service road .
He tried to stop but the drive drove the vehicle in speed and sped away only to be found abandoned the vehicle near Fisheries department and driver fled the scene .
Upon verification it was found around 80 sacks of rice bags with 50 kgs each total worth 40 Quintals worth Rs.1.2 lakh.
Suspecting that it was part of the rice smuggling racket,Nagaraj handed over the truck to Sanjay Nagar police and filed a complaint seeking detailed investigation.
Based on the complaint,the police registered a case under essential commodities act and tracking down the owner of the vehicle and the driver for further investigation.
