Two including Chennai-based man held by customs officials for smuggling drugs using morphed Aadhaar cards in Bengaluru, Recovered Ephedrine Drugs Worth Rs.89.9 Lakhs

Officials of Custom intelligence Unit busted another international drug racket arrested a Chennai based man and recovered 4.4 kgs of Ephedrine worth Rs.89.9 lakh which were concealed in the readymade garments to be dispatched to Australia from International courier terminal ay Airport and cargo unit on Friday .

The accused according to the officials,used to book such shipments for export,using morphed Aadhar cards to avoid getting caught.

In the followup action after above mentioned seizure,officers of Vijayawada Police arrested an individual in Chennai who had morphed the Aadhar card of a Guntur based individual with his own photograph and had approached the courier agency in Vijayawada to export the above mentioned shipment.

He was remanded to judicial custody for various offences under the IPC.

Furthermore,the accused was produced before the NDPS Court,Bengaluru,who remanded him to judicial custody for further investigation is in progress.

The custom officials advised people not to share their IDs which could be misused and put them in trouble.

It was observed that certain unscrupulous individuals had morphed the Aadhar card of unsuspecting individuals and have used to same to export prohibited, contraband substances.

A message has to be therefore suitably disseminated to the citizens to ensure due diligence and care to ensure that they do not fall prey to such tactics and also that they do not share their documents to unscrupulous and unauthorized persons who may misuse them.

The couriers and their agencies also should ensure stricter checks at all their outlets to detect such instances,the officials added.
