Gas cylinder explodes at a hotel in Indiranagar,3 staff injured

Residents,passers-by and business owners of the CMH road were rattled to the explosion occurred due to LPG Gas leakage at the kitchen of New Shanti Sagar hotel on Saturday.

The injured Narasimha,55,Gangadhar 33 and Jagadisha,58 are being treated at St johns hospital .

Three hotel staff suffered severe burn injuries and taken to St Johns hospital while four others including few customers had narrow escape with minor injuries .

The blast occurred at around 4.37 pm when the staff noticed the gas leakage due to suspected safety pin malfunctioning at the kitchen and alerted the management to evacuate the customers.

The staff later went to examine when the blast occurred due to the leaked gas came in contact with the flames in the stove,Hemanth Kumar,K, District Fire Officer,told reporters.

Probe by the officials revealed that the cause of explosion is due to pressure built due to formation of fire ball in the kitchen.

A glass partition was shattered and the hotel building was rattled.

Two tenders with seven fire and rescue personnel led by DFO Hemanth Kumar were part of the operation to douse the fire .

There were four additional cylinders found in the kitchen and luckily and were safe.

The fire personnel are now awaiting for the FSL experts investigations to ascertain the exact cause of fire said a senior Fire and Emergency officer.
