One held by Kalasipalya Police,Rescued 380 ‘Endangered’ Indian Star Tortoises in Bengaluru from illegal wildlife trade

The West Division police of Kalasipalya Police have arrested one persons who was in possession of 401 Indian star tortoise in his possession and was trying to export to other state.

Senior officer told reporters,Acting on a tip off, the Kalasipalya police inspector and his team conducted a raid and took Muthu Hamad Meera into custody.

The police obtained the court permission and handed over the 380 tortoises to the Bannerghatta national park for rehabilitation.

Three days after 170 star tortoises were rescued which were abandoned in two bags,the Kalasipalya police on Tuesday caught a man with 401 star tortoises which he was trying to smuggle to Chennai by a private transport .

The accused Muthu Hamad Meera was caught red handed on Monday evening while he was trying to board the private bus to Chennai a total of 401 Indian star tortoises were recovered, which were kept in two boxes by a person.Of these 21 were found dead and another 20 in serious condition.

A team from Bannerghatta National Park arrived here and was taking measures to save those in serious condition.

On Saturday,alert staff of the transport company rescued 170 star tortoises stuffed in two bags and being taken to Chennai.The two persons who owned the bags soon escaped before the police could reach the spot .

The accused has been taken into custody to ascertain the source of the tortoises.

Finally Bengaluru Police Commissioner,Kamal Pant has appreciated Addl CP West,Soumendhu Mukherjee,DCP West,Dr Sanjeev M Patil,ACP P Ravikumar,PI,Chethan kumar ML and his whole staff has been appreciated for the commendable job done by them in nabbing the notorious person who was trying to smuggle Indian Star tortoise to Chennai and rescued 380 Tortoise from him a suitable reward will be given to the team he added.
