Car Driver held for mowing down traffic police on duty

A Traffic police Head constable attached to old airport road station escaped with minor injuries when 26-year-old man tried to mow him down in a bid to escape drunk driving check on HAL main road on Saturday night.

The injured Constable,Mubarak Ali,fell down and sustained injuries on hands an legs and was taken to Manipal hospital for treatment,while the accused driver identified as Anjaneyulu was arrested and his car seized.

The accused resident of Nagarabhavi was returning home from Yemalur after attending a party.

The accused was driving in rash and negligent way,was flag down by Ali and asked for the driving licence and documents for check.

Enraged Anjaneyalu,shouted at Ali stating “do you know who i am,how dare you stop me”. Since it was routine for the policemen,Ali ignored and continue to ask for the documents for which Anjaneyulu,moved the car and knocked Ali down.

Ali fell on the safe side of the road and sustained injuries on his legs and hands.However his colleagues busy on checking other vehicles rushed to his help,and tried to stop the car.

In the melee,Anjaneyalu lost control and rammed the car into the roadside wall before the halt.

The police pinned him down and called the hoysala for backup to take him to the police station.

Ali was taken to the hospital where he is being treated.

Based on the complaint by the traffic police,the HAL police have charged Anjaneyalu for assaulting the government servant while on duty , attempt to murder,mischief causing damage and rash and negligent driving in Public way.

The accused has been arrested and the car seized later he was subjected to medical examination to ascertain whether he was intoxicated for further investigation, a police officer,said .
