14-year-old drowned,another rescued in an under construction building filled with 10 feet rain water

A 14-year-old boy drowned while another was rescued after they fell in the cellar of an under construction building which was filled with 10 feet of rain water in KG Halli on Tuesday afternoon.

The site was filled with water due to heavy rain and the building owner did not make any safety measures to secure the area.

The deceased has been identified as Chandru,son of Muthumani,a labourer hails from Tamil Nadu.

The family is residing in KG Halli and Chandru’s mother had passed away during Covid first wave.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 3.30pm in HBR Layout 2nd stage near BDA complex when six of the children were playing football nearby the site.The ball went into the cellar and Chandru went to pick it up.

He lost control and slipped and drowned as he did not know how to swim.His friend Vimal (13) went to rescue him and also did not come out.

Other four raised alarm and alerted the passers-by who rescued Vimal while the body of Chandru was recovered later and shifted to Ambedkar hospital .

Adam Pasha,a food delivery boy who witnessed  the incident said,four of the boys were screaming for help and I along with three other residents went to see what happened and rescued one of the boys who was clinging to a pillar and shouting.

We rescued him and later found another body floating and I called fire and emergency service and the police .

THe KG Halli police have taken up a case of death due to negligence against building owner Firoz Ahemed for further investigation.
