A police constable attached to yelahanka police station who is part of the tracking team jumped into 25 feet well in the forest area in dark raining night to save accused of a robbery case who slipped and fell into the well during a chase and in a bid to escape from police team.
Senior officer told media persons that,The incident occurred in toopur village in dharmapuri where the accused along with two of his associates had taken shelter in a religious place after committing robbery in yelahanka on october 3.
The accused assaulted Reddy Shekhar,a sales executive of a private firm,and robbed his gold chain,phone and cash Rs.3,000.
Based on the complaint,Yelahanka inspector,KP Satyanarayan,analyzed the CCTV footages from in and around the area and identified the accused from govindapura.
A team went to secure their arrest but the accused escaped to toopur and taken shelter.
Tracking their whereabouts a team including inspector,Satyanarayan and constable Shivakumar went to arrest and surrounded them on sunday night .
Sending danger the accused fled the scene and one among them in a bid to flee slipped into the well and was drowning.
It was a forest area and pitch dark,Shivakumar who was chasing the accused realized that he was in danger.Without wasting time,he tied rope brought from the jeep and jumped into the well.
With the help of other staff,the accused and Shivakumar was pulled out.
The accused did not know swimming and also he was also under intoxicated situation.
The accused was brought back to station for questioning while efforts are on to track down the other accused.
