‘KARMBHOOMI TO JANMBHOOMI’ NCC CYCLE EXPEDITION WELCOMED AT SABARMATI ASHRAM IN AHMEDABAD

The Hon’ble Home Minister of Gujarat, Shri Pradeepsinh Jadeja and Major General Roy Joseph ADG, NCC Directorate Gujarat, Daman, Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli jointly flagged in the ‘Karmbhoomi to Janmbhoomi’ cycle expedition on 23 Sep 19 at the Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad. The event also featured sharing of experiences by cadets and a nukkad natak highlighting Gandhian philosophy. The Minister praised the cadets for the hard work and was appreciative of NCC as an organization towards their role in nation building. ADG gave an overview of NCC activities as well the recent emphasis on social responsibility while spreading the message of Mahatma Gandhi.

 The expedition has been organized by NCC Group HQ, Ahmedabad under the aegis of NCC Dte Gujarat, Daman, Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

 The aim of the expedition is to rekindle and refresh the Gandhian Philosophy among the youth and denizens of the state. It would also give an opportunity to the cadets to visit the Janmabhoomi and Karmabhoomi. The expedition intends to rejuvenate these young minds and populace with the Gandhian principles who will then serve as ambassadors and carry the message forward to the masses.

 The expedition commenced from National Salt Satyagraha Memorial, Dandi on 19 Sep 2019 and will culminate at Kirti Mandir, Porbandar on 29 Sep 2019. The expedition is being led by Colonel Damodaran P, CO 9 Battalion NCC, Lieutenant Urvashi Sharma and five girl and six boy cadets who will cover a distance of 800 kms, cycling almost 75-80 km every day for 11 days.

 The route followed by the expedition upto Ahmedabad was Dandi, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodra, Nadiad, Ahmedabad. The route ahead is Viramgam, Surendranagar, Chotila, Rajkot, Dhoraji and Porbandar. Hundreds of NCC cadets and civilian cyclists will join the expedition at each location and support the cyclists.
