The High grounds police on Wednesday arrested a gang of three who posing as ACB officials extorted Rs 10 lakh from a few BDA engineers for not conducting action against them.
The accused have been identified as Vijay Kumar, Praveen KR , from Banashankari and Manoj.The police also arrested Chethan N,a staff of BDA for introducing the accused to BDA officials and mediated the deal .
Senior officer told reporters, acting on complaint a special team arrested three fake ACB officials including a BDA staff who posing as ACB officials extorted Rs.10 lakhs from BDA engineers.
During investigation the accused confessed the team and said the accused have made use of the raids carried out by the ACB in BDA recently and through their contact,Chethan N approached the officials stating that they have information about the officials about their corruption and disproportionate assets and would be conducting raids on them.
They also gave an option and took Rs 10 lakh in return of not taking action against them.
However the ACB officials during the course of investigations stumbled upon the information and complained to the jurisdictional High grounds police.
Based on the complaint,the police arrested Praveen KB, Chethan N and Manoj KUmar under impersonation and extortion and taken them into custody for further investigations to ascertain their criminal background. efforts are on to track down VIjay Kumar who is on the run.
According to the ACB officials a similar case was reported in February this year and conman identified as Dharmendra was arrested by High grounds police for threatening an officer with KIADB and extorted Rs 1.5 lakh from him.
Another conman posing as ACB officer threatened and blackmailed officer with Bengaluru Nirmithi Kendra to extort money.
A case has been registered in Halasuru gate police station in this regard.
The ACB officials warned the officials not to entertain people who approach them as ACB and demand money and report the matter to the ACB office or the jurisdictional police.
