Doddaballapur Town Police have arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly maintaining contact with a Pakistan-based gang through Instagram.
The arrested accused has been identified as Syed Abubakar,a resident of Islamapur.
Senior officer told reporters that he was arrested based on information received from the Counter Intelligence Cell and Central Intelligence Bureau (IB)officials, and further questioning is underway.
He further said Abubakar had allegedly been in contact with a Pakistan-based gang through Instagram for the past two years.
Investigators found that he had provided his Aadhaar card details and used them to access an Instagram account allegedly linked to the Pakistan-based network.
We suspect that the gang is involved in threatening wealthy businessmen and extorting money from them.
Abubakar was reportedly working as an AC repair technician and was also attending religious classes at a mosque in Bengaluru.
Investigators are also probing allegations that he had travelled to Kerala and Delhi for training,allegedly at the direction of members of the Pakistan-based network.
We are examining his communications,social media activity,travel history and possible links with other members of the network.
A case has been registered against Abubakar under Sections 113(3) and 197(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.
