Mandya:Aishwarya,daughter of Tumakuru Rural MLA B. Suresh Gowda and wife of an ACP, has been booked for allegedly abusing,assaulting and threatening a woman police sub-inspector who was on security duty at a temple in Mandya during Bhima Amavasya celebrations.
The incident occurred around 8.15 pm on August 12 at the Maramma temple at Arathi Ukkada,coming under the jurisdiction of Kyathanahalli police station.
According to the complaint lodged by Savitha B Patil,PSI with the Mandya Women’s Police Station,she was deployed for bandobast duty at the temple from 2 pm to 10 pm.
Around 4.30 pm,Aishwarya allegedly sought direct entry into the sanctum for darshan, bypassing the queue.
The PSI told her that there was heavy rush and asked her to wait for some time,stating that allowing her in immediately could lead to protests from devotees waiting in the queue.
The complaint states that Aishwarya allegedly became angry,claimed that she was the daughter of a political leader and began abusing the PSI.
She allegedly approached the officer,who was in uniform and on duty,and slapped her on the face.
The PSI stated that she raised her hand in self-defence and pushed Aishwarya away,fearing that she would be assaulted again.
Aishwarya allegedly then threatened the PSI,claiming that she was an MLA’s daughter and the wife of a DySP/ACP,and warned that she would not spare the officer and would “teach her a lesson”.
Other police personnel intervened and took the PSI aside.Police officers,including PS Basavaraj Chincholi and PSIs Ramesh Karakikatti and Lingraju C.M., reportedly reached the spot and tried to pacify the situation.
Two members of the public have also been cited as witnesses in the complaint.
Based on the PSI’s complaint,Kyathanahalli police registered an FIR against Aishwarya under Sections 132, 115(2), 352 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly assaulting the police officer, obstructing her official duty,abusing her and issuing threats.
Counter-complaint filed:
Police officials said a counter-complaint has also been lodged against PSI Savitha,with Aishwarya allegedly accusing the officer of abusing her during the altercation.
Police are examining both complaints and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following the controversy,MLA B.Suresh Gowda is learnt to have apologised on behalf of his daughter.
The incident has drawn attention as it involves an alleged assault on a police officer while she was deployed for official security duty during a major religious gathering.
