The Regional Transport Office (RTO) on Tuesday launched a city-wide enforcement drive against illegal
ly operated bike taxis in Bengaluru,seizing several motorcycles allegedly being used as commercial vehicles through unauthorized mobile applications.
According to officials,263 motorcycles were seized by RTO officials across City.while the North RTO impounded eight vehicles found operating as bike taxis using illegal mobile apps.
In a separate operation,Rajajinagar RTO officials seized 12 motorcycles for allegedly providing commercial ride services without valid authorization.
The crackdown is aimed at curbing the illegal operation of bike taxis that are allegedly being run in violation of transport regulations.
RTO officials said the enforcement drive will continue across the city,and strict action will be taken against vehicles found operating without the required permits and approvals.
Officials have urged vehicle owners not to use private motorcycles for commercial passenger transport unless permitted under the law.
The RTO has warned that violators could face vehicle seizure and other legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act.
