A young man was killed and five others,including the driver,were seriously injured after a Tempo Traveller (TT) vehicle crashed into an electric pole and overturned near Mahadeshwara Temple on the Ring Road in Annapoorneshwarinagar late on Saturday night.
According to preliminary information,seven youths from Laggere were travelling in the TT towards Nayandahalli when the accident occurred.Ravi was driving the vehicle.
Police sources said the driver allegedly tried to avoid a group of youths who were reportedly wheeling on the road.
In the process,he lost control of the vehicle,which rammed into an electric pole on the roadside and overturned.
Manoj,who was travelling in the vehicle,suffered severe injuries and died on the spot.
Ravi and four others sustained serious injuries and were shifted to a nearby private hospital for treatment.
Manoj’s body was sent to Victoria Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Meanwhile,local residents alleged that an ambulance took nearly an hour to reach the accident spot.
They also claimed that the ambulance arrived with only a driver and without the required medical staff.
This reportedly led to a protest and a commotion at the spot.
Residents also expressed anger over the alleged increase in late-night wheeling incidents in the area and questioned the police action against such offenders.
The accident occurred within the jurisdiction of Annapoorneshwarinagar police station,and further investigation is underway.
