A 13-year-old boy was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by his neighbour for money in Yelahanka, Bengaluru.
The accused was caught after he was involved in a series of accidents while allegedly attempting to flee with the boy’s body in the car.
The deceased has been identified as Prajwal (13),a resident of Vinayaka Nagar in Yelahanka.
The accused, identified as Bhaskar Reddy,is reportedly a neighbour of the boy.
Senior officer told reporters that Bhaskar had taken Prajwal in his car two days ago on the pretext of buying firecrackers for a Ganapati festival celebration.
He allegedly made a video of the boy inside the car and threatened his parents,demanding money.
We suspect that Bhaskar,allegedly under the influence of alcohol,later assaulted the boy with a hollow brick,killing him.
After the murder,the accused allegedly placed Prajwal’s body in the boot of the car and drove towards Andhra Pradesh.
While fleeing,he lost control of the vehicle and hit a wall. He subsequently became involved in a series of accidents on the Ballari service road.
Motorists who witnessed the accidents reportedly stopped the vehicle and questioned the driver.Police who arrived at the spot searched the car and found Prajwal’s body in the boot.
During initial questioning,Bhaskar allegedly claimed that
the boy had accidentally come in front of the car and died.
However,police investigation reportedly revealed that he was transporting the body towards Andhra Pradesh allegedly on the instructions of a friend.
The police have arrested Bhaskar Reddy and are questioning him to establish the exact motive, sequence of events and the possible involvement of others.
