India has a captive market of 130 crore people which no other country can boast of.The people require skills to fulfill the needs of this huge population. So skills development is the future of the country,Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.

The Chief Minister in his address after inaugurating the ‘World Youth Skills Day’ celebrations said, everyone is born with some skill. It needs to be tapped.

Earlier India’s high population was seen as a burden, but Prime Minister Modi changed the perception by defining it as a demographic dividend which can be used effectively for nation building by imparting appropriate skills as it is a young country with 46% of our population being youth.

It is the working class who are the movers and shakers of the economy, not the rich class,he said.

Imparting skills is the top priority of the state government to involve them in nation building. About 200 ITIs in the state have been upgraded,6 engineering colleges are being upgraded to IIT standards,Bommai said.

About 75,000 youth are being imparted various vocational skills under the Amrit Mahotsav scheme.

Many new programmes are being formulated by the department of Skills Development and Livelihood to empower our youth with professional skills, he said.
