The Chamarajpet Police have arrested a 30-year-old suspected drug peddler who allegedly used bike-based delivery services to transport cocaine concealed inside chocolate boxes.
The accused,identified as Raju,a native of Uttar Pradesh residing in Begur,was found in possession of 116.3 grams of cocaine worth approximately Rs.50 lakh.
Senior officer told reporters our officers inspector kiran and his team headed by PSI,Guruswamy grew suspicious after noticing delivery bikes frequently visiting an apartment in the Chamarajpet area without making regular parcel deliveries.
During surveillance on the night of July 19,police team observed delivery riders repeatedly stopping near a parked car for 15 to 20 minutes instead of delivering packages to apartment residents.
On questioning one of the delivery riders,police found that the parcels had been booked by Raju.
Further investigation revealed that Raju allegedly paid the riders a delivery fee of Rs.50 and an additional tip of around Rs.300 to ensure quick deliveries without delay.
A search of the parcels led to the discovery of cocaine hidden inside small chocolate boxes.Police immediately arrested Raju and seized the narcotics along with the car allegedly used in the operation.
Investigators are now probing the source of the cocaine, the identities of the buyers,the duration of the illegal operation,and whether the accused is linked to a larger interstate drug trafficking network.
Police are also searching for another suspect believed to be involved in the racket.
