A woman from Chamarajpet was allegedly cheated of Rs.2.5 crore by a fake godman and his associates,who convinced her that expensive rituals would remove evil forces from her home and falsely promised to return Rs.10 crore in exchange for the money.The case has been registered by the Bengaluru City CCB.
According to the complaint,the victim,originally from Andhra Pradesh and now residing in Chamarajpet,was introduced to self-styled godman Afsar Pasha through intermediaries Shankar and Bharath,who had become acquainted with her while assisting her in obtaining loans against her property.
The accused allegedly exploited the emotional trauma of victim,whose son had died in a motorcycle accident.
They reportedly convinced her that evil spirits in the house were responsible for her son’s death and collected Rs.8 lakh to perform special rituals to remove the “negative energy.”
The accused later claimed that Rs.500 crore was due to them from the Reserve Bank of India and persuaded victim to lend them Rs.2.5 crore,promising that she would receive Rs.10 crore in return once the funds were released.
Believing the claims, victim allegedly sold her Chamarajpet house for Rs.8.5 crore and paid Rs.2.5 crore to the accused.
When she later demanded the money back,they allegedly threatened to kill her.
The CCB has registered an FIR against Afsar Pasha, Shankar,and Bharath on charges of cheating, criminal intimidation,and other relevant offences.
An investigation is underway to trace the accused and recover the cheated amount.
