A 23-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband at a lodge in Doddaballapura,reportedly using an ID card tag.
The accused allegedly fled the lodge with the victim’s mobile phone.
The deceased has been identified as Vidya,a resident of Nagaragere village in Gauribidanur taluk.
The accused,Anand,is a resident of Mudugere village.
Vidya and Anand had married for love four years ago and were living in a rented house in Gandhinagar, Doddaballapura.
Senior officer told reporters,the couple had been facing marital disputes for the past six months.
About two months ago,Vidya left her husband and moved into a PG accommodation in Bengaluru.
Anand subsequently filed a missing-person complaint at the Doddaballapura Women’s Police Station.
Police later traced Vidya and,around 20 days ago, counselled the couple and sent her back with Anand, according to reports.
On Wednesday night,Anand allegedly took Vidya to SGS Lodge, located above Samruddhi Hotel in Doddaballapura.
CCTV footage reportedly shows the couple entering their room together at around 11:48 PM
At around 1 a.m,Anand allegedly locked the room and left the lodge alone.
Since the room had been locked and the key had been used, lodge staff reportedly assumed that the couple’s belongings were still inside and did not immediately suspect foul play.
After 24 hours,when lodge staff attempted to contact Anand, his phone was reportedly switched off.
Police were informed and arrived at the lodge that night.
During an inspection of the room,they found Vidya dead. She had allegedly been strangled with an ID card tag.
A case has been registered at Doddaballapura Town Police Station.
Police are searching for Anand,who is currently absconding,and are investigating the circumstances and motive behind the alleged murder.
