A surprise inspection conducted by prison authorities at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison has revealed that undertrial inmates were allegedly operating mobile phones inside the jail premises,raising fresh concerns over security lapses within the prison.
Based on a complaint filed by Superintendent-in-Charge B.R.Adhani,police have registered an FIR against four inmates and launched an investigation to ascertain how the mobile phones were smuggled into the prison despite multi-layered security checks.
According to the complaint,prison officials carried out a surprise inspection between 1:45 pm and 3:30 pm under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent T.K.Lokesh in the high-security division of the jail.
During the raid,prohibited electronic items were allegedly recovered from the cells of four undertrial prisoners identified as Mustafa (UT No.4632/24),Abubal Rahman (UT No.6131/25),Salman (UT No.10148/18) and Fazal (UT No. 5416/22).
Officials seized four mobile phones,seven SIM cards, one earbud device,two earphones,a charger and a charging connector from the inmates’ possession.
Authorities stated that possession and use of such electronic gadgets inside prison premises is strictly prohibited.
The complaint also sought action against those who allegedly helped smuggle the banned items into the jail and facilitated their usage by inmates.
Police have registered a case under Section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons (Amendment) Act,2022 and other relevant provisions,and further investigation is underway.
