A case has been registered for impersonating a senior civic official by misusing his photograph on WhatsApp and sending messages to other officials.
According to the complaint filed by R.Ravikumar, Personal Assistant to Bengaluru East Municipal Commissioner D.S.Ramesh (IAS),an unidentified individual used the Commissioner’s photograph as a WhatsApp display picture and posed as him to contact officials.
The incident reportedly took place on April 22, 2025.The accused,using WhatsApp number +62 851-2491-1356, sent messages at around 3:01 PM to Additional Commissioner (Revenue) Dr.Pragya Ammanbala and at 3:14 PM to Joint Commissioner (Mahadevapura Zone-01) Dr.Dakshayini K.
Following the complaint,a case has been registered at the concerned police station under invoking Section 66(C) of the Information Technology Act,which deals with identity theft.
Police have taken up further investigation to trace the accused.
Similar incidents reported as cyber frauds misused IDs of BDA commissioner,GBA commissioner and city police commissioner among others to cheat people and the staff.
