A court in Bengaluru has directed police to register an FIR and initiate an investigation against Karnataka Home Minister G.Parameshwara over allegations of illegal betting during a local kabaddi match.
The order was passed by the XLII Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM),K.N.Shivakumar,who also called for a probe against the Deputy Commissioner of Tumakuru.
The court observed that the alleged acts do not fall within the scope of official duties of the accused, and therefore, prior sanction from competent authorities is not required to proceed with the investigation.
The directive came after a private complaint was filed by H.R.Nagabhushan.In his complaint,Nagabhushan alleged that Parameshwara, the sitting MLA from Koratagere constituency, and the Tumakuru Deputy Commissioner participated in illegal betting during a kabaddi tournament held in Tumakuru city on October 19, 2025.
According to the complaint, the accused had allegedly placed a Rs.500 bet on the Dakshina Kannada district team and later publicly acknowledged the same, thereby encouraging illegal betting among the public.
The complainant invoked provisions under Sections 112(2) and 45 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
After reviewing the complaint, the court referred the matter under Section 175(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita to the Station House Officer of Kodigehalli Police Station in Koratagere taluk for investigation and directed that an FIR be registered.
The case stems from remarks made by Parameshwara following the match, where he reportedly told media,I lost Rs 500.
We both, the DC and I,had a bet and I lost Rs.500.”The statement was aired on local television channels.
Further investigation is awaited following the registration of the FIR.
