Woman Security guard allegedly cheated by scammers promising to give IPL match tickets and lured her with Rs.52,500

A woman security guard has allegedly been cheated of Rs.52,500 in a fake IPL ticket scam,following which a complaint was lodged with the Central Division Cyber Crime Police on April 10.

The complainant,works as a security guard with a private agency.She was assigned duty at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 28,2026,during an IPL match.

According to the complaint,during her duty hours,she inquired about PL match tickets with a bouncer deployed and he shared a mobile number and asked her to contact them.

She tried the number but it was swtiched off,when she later reached out via WhatsApp,the accused,who spoke in Hindi,offered tickets for upcoming matches,including high-demand fixtures.

Trusting them,she initially transferred Rs.3,000 for two tickets through an online payment platform.

The accused then sent QR codes bearing her name, making the transaction appear genuine.Convinced,she proceeded to purchase more tickets.

Between March 30 and April 4,she transferred multiple amounts—₹4,000, ₹3,000, ₹7,500, ₹25,500, and ₹12,500—totalling ₹52,500 through online transactions to the bank account provided by the accused.

However,despite repeated payments,no valid IPL tickets were delivered,and the accused became unresponsive.

Realising she had been cheated,victim approached the cyber crime police and filed a complaint against the unknown persons.

Officials from the cyber crime wing have registered a case and initiated an investigation to trace the accused and recover the defrauded amount.

They have also cautioned the public to purchase event tickets only through authorised platforms and to verify sellers before making payments online.
