Pro-Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj was arrested by Basaveshwaranagar police after a warrant was issued by the 42nd ACJM Court in connection with a protest case.
According to police,the case dates back to 2021,when Vatal Nagaraj had staged a protest in front of the residence of Suresh Kumar the then education minister during corona time demanding the government to pass the students .
Mr.Nagaraj had aplied Exemption from personal appearnce to the hearing which twice and third time the court reject the plea.
Following legal proceedings,the court issued a warrant against him,leading to his arrest on Tuesday.
During the arrest procedure at his residence in Dollars colony,Mr.Vatal Nagaraj objected to the warrant being issued in English.
Insisting on linguistic rights,he reportedly argued that he would cooperate only if the warrant was provided in Kannada.
He expressed strong displeasure and refused to board the police vehicle as he was supposed to sit in the back of the vehicle as he objected citing he is not an accused in any criminal case.
Despite his resistance and persuation the Basaveshwaranagar police detained him and eventually escorted him in an autorickshaw.He was taken to KC General hospital for medical examination and produced before the court.
During the hearing the court asked him to pay the fine for which he contended that he would challenge the order at the higher court.The court allowed his plea and posted the next hearing to April 30 and released.
