Cubbon Park Traffic Police have registered a case against Ricky Rai,son of a former underworld operative, for allegedly using a fake“fancy”registration number plate on his high-end Lamborghini Huracan and performing dangerous stunts on city roads.
Senior officer told reporters that the case came to light following a citizen report on social media tagged to Bengaluru City Police.
The complaint, filed by Police Constable Shanmukha (PC 22318),stated that on March 21, 2026,around 2:40 am, the luxury car bearing registration number KA-05 NR 0009 was seen drifting and driving rashly at Anil Kumble Circle under Cubbon Park Traffic Police limits.
Based on the complaint,a case was registered at Cubbon Park Traffic Police Station. The vehicle was seized and entered under PF No.08/2026 for further investigation.
During the probe, police sought verification from the Regional Transport Office (RTO),Bengaluru South. Authorities confirmed that the“fancy number”KA-05 NR 0009 had not been officially allotted to any vehicle.
Investigations revealed that Ricky Rai had allegedly purchased the Lamborghini Huracan, originally registered in Delhi(DL 1 CT 1515), but had not completed its re-registration in Karnataka as mandated by law.
Instead,he is accused of installing a counterfeit number plate to resemble a premium registration number.
Police said the fake number plate was used to evade identification while committing traffic violations and potentially for other unlawful activities.
Based on the findings,Cubbon Park Traffic Police have booked Ricky Rai under Sections 318(4) (cheating), 340(2) (use of forged document as genuine),and 341 (possession of counterfeit instruments for forgery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
