CM Siddaramaiah,announced ‘Operation Parishuddhikarana’ with an outlay of ₹20 crore to modernize security and sanitize prisons across the state

The state government has announced ‘Operation Parishuddhikarana’ with an outlay of ₹20 crore to curb the use of mobile phones,narcotics and other prohibited items,and to prevent illegal activities inside prisons across the state.

Presenting the state Budget in the Assembly,Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said modern security systems including AI-based detection systems,CCTV cameras, body-worn cameras and other advanced security screening equipment will be installed in prisons.

He also announced that the second phase of construction of the Mangaluru Central Prison will be taken up.

In addition,construction of the Raichur District Central Prison will begin during the current year.

Further,district central prisons with a capacity of 1,000 inmates each will be constructed in Vijayapura and Bidar at a cost of Rs 471 crore,he said.

The Chief Minister also stated that a Drug De-Addiction Centre will be established at the Bengaluru Central Prison to help inmates overcome substance abuse.

The central prison of Parappana Agarahara has topped among the other district prisons in terms of illegal use of mobile phones and other contrabands despite multi layered security system in place.
