A 33-year-old software engineer stabbed his father,a retired Navy Captain,and his mother,a dentist,to death following a financial dispute in Bengaluru.
Senior officer told reporters that he has been remanded in judicial custody.
The accused, identified as Rohan Chandra Bhatt,was taken into custody hours after the crime and subjected to medical examination.He was mentally disturbed and needed treatment, before the police could initiate detailed probe,a senior police officer, said.
The victims,identified as Naveen Chandra Bhatt,60,a retired Navy Captain,and his wife Dr.Shyamala Bhatt,55, a dentist,sustained severe injuries.
They were rushed to the hospital by one of their neighbours, before alerting the police.The duo was declared ‘brought dead’ on arrival, the police said.
The incident occurred at the upscale Adarsha Vista villa community between 7.30 am and 8 am.in Vignan Nagar, East Bengaluru,on Wednesday based on the information rushed to the spot and taken Rohan into custody .
Probe revealed that Rohan had recently returned from the United States and was living separately from his parents due to strained relations.
The accused visited the victims on Tuesday night,and an argument broke out over his alleged demand for financial assistance to start a new business venture.
We suspect that the argument escalated on Wednesday morning,during which Rohan allegedly attacked both his parents with a kitchen knife.
The complainant,Dr.Madhavi Nayar,in her complaint stated that at around 7:40 am on February 11,an emergency call was received by her neighbours requesting urgent assistance at the residence.
Upon reaching the house,Naveen was found near the entrance of the house with multiple bleeding injuries. With the help of security personnel,a cloth was tied around his back to control the bleeding and an ambulance was called.
Inside the house,Shyamala was found lying on the floor unconscious and unresponsive.The couple’s son, Roshan (also referred to as Rohan in the complaint),was present inside the house and reportedly stated that he had sustained injuries to his stomach.
Thinking that ambulance will be delayed,the injured Naveen and Shyamala were shifted in a neighbour Sameer’s car to Manipal Hospital.However,during transit, Naveen stopped responding.At around 8:15 am, doctors at Manipal Hospital declared both Naveen and Shyamala dead.
Medical examination revealed that Shyamala had two stab injuries on her back along with scratch marks.
Naveen had two stab wounds on his back,injuries near his right eye,and wounds on his shoulder and right hand.
The complainant alleged that the couple’s son, Roshan/Rohan, had committed the act.It was further mentioned that he has been undergoing treatment for a mental health condition and was on medication.
