The city police have once again come under the spotlight following allegations against a police constable attached to the HSR Layout Police Station, who has been accused of eloping with a married woman he befriended on social media.
The accused has been identified as Raghavendra,a police constable from North Karnataka, who was serving as a Hoysala patrol driver at the HSR Layout Police Station.
The woman,Monica,a Mysuru native and social media content creator, had been married for over 15 years and has a 12-year-old son.
According to the complaint filed by Monica’s husband at the Chandra Layout Police Station, the woman came in contact with the constable through Instagram around June this year.
Within two months, the online interaction allegedly intensified, with the two frequently speaking over phone and meeting regularly.
Police sources said that three months ago,Monica herself had approached the police, stating that she wanted to “rebuild her life” and requested officers to counsel her husband.
Acting on the complaint,Chandra Layout police summoned the husband to the station.
However, while the husband was at the police station, Monica allegedly returned home and fled with 160 grams of gold jewellery and ₹1.80 lakh in cash, police said. She later stopped responding to calls from her husband.
The husband claims that upon accessing Monica’s Instagram account, he found chat records allegedly exchanged between her and constable Raghavendra, following which he lodged a formal complaint alleging theft and cheating.
As the matter reached senior police officials, constable Raghavendra was placed under suspension. However, the complainant has alleged that despite the suspension, the constable continued to intimidate him.
In a serious allegation, the husband has claimed that the suspended constable issued death threats, including threats to kill his 12-year-old son. Police officials said these allegations are being verified.
A senior police officer said an internal inquiry has been initiated and strict action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation. Further legal proceedings are underway.
The case has once again raised concerns over alleged misconduct by police personnel and the need for stricter accountability within the force.
