A young woman’s complaint alleging gang rape by a cab driver and his friend has taken a dramatic turn during investigation, with police now stating that no evidence of a gang rape has emerged.
The woman had initially approached the Madiwala police several days after the alleged incident, claiming that the cab driver and his associate sexually assaulted her.
As the location of the alleged offence fell under Banaswadi Police Station limits, the case was transferred accordingly.
Acting swiftly,Banaswadi police arrested the cab driver and began questioning him.
However,as the investigation progressed, contradictions surfaced in the woman’s statements.
Police sources said the survivor’s initial allegation of a “gang rape”appeared inconsistent, and inquiry has so far revealed that no such incident took place.
Investigators have also recovered WhatsApp chats showing that the woman and the accused were acquainted prior to the incident, contradicting her earlier claim. Both the complainant and the accused are reportedly from Kerala.
During interrogation, the accused told police that the sexual act was consensual. With conflicting statements from the woman, police are now probing why such a serious allegation was filed in the first place.
To bring further clarity to the case, investigators are preparing to record the woman’s statement before a magistrate under Section 164 of the CRPC.
