B-Tech graduate turned bike thief arrested by Bandepalya police & recovered 18 stolen bikes worth Rs.15 Lakhs

The Bandepalya police have arrested a 30-year B Tech graduate involved in over 15 bike theft cases in and around the city .

The accused Rishav Chakravarthy,a native of West Bengal had come to the city six years ago and working in a Tech company.

He was sacked from the job on the charges of stealing, since then he started stealing parked bikes,a senior officer,said .

The police had arrested the accused earlier in a bike theft case and as a reformative measure,counselled him and got him a job in a tech company on recommendation based on his technical qualification, but the accused was terminated again because of his stealing behaviour.

The police had even placed him in a paying guest accommodation,but the accused was sacked from there after he stole a phone from one of his PG mate,the officer,said .

With no job and place to live the accused would move around the city steal parked bikes and use them until the fuel is over.

He would park the stolen bike on road side before stealing the next bike,the police,explained.

The police suspected that he is suffering from kleptomania and needed a proper treatment.The accused had stolen the scooter on October 29 belonging to Zaid Baig parked outside his house in Mangammanapalya.

Based on the complaint,the police analysed the CCTV footage identified the accused on Hosur road near Bosch building where he was using the bike .

Based on his confession,the police recovered 8 bikes worth Rs.6.5 lakh which he had parked at football ground parking area and ITI park compound .

The accused confessed to have stolen many more bikes and he does not even remember where he had dumped the stolen bikes .

Many places based on his statement have been searched but could not find the bikes.There may be chances that someone noticing the abandoned bikes might have taken away,a senior officer,said .
