In a unique initiative to promote road-safety awareness, Former Education Minister and Rajajinagar MLA,S. Suresh Kumar donned the role of a traffic policeman for a day at Bhashyam Circle on Tuesday.
The move aimed at understanding the challenges faced by traffic personnel and spreading awareness among motorists on the importance of following traffic rules.
Suresh Kumar interacted with commuters while assisting traffic police officials at the junction.
Traffic Inspector S.Mohammed Ali,Sub-Inspectors as, Nanjaiah,Smt.Parvathi Bai and head constables Akram Pasha,Raghavendra,Manju,and Lokesh were present during the initiative.
Speaking on the occasion,Suresh Kumar said Today in a way is a festive atmosphere for me.We celebrate and participate in various festivals and events,but the experience I gained as traffic police personnel is unique, as I personally got to know the way the commuters follow or react to the traffic rules and how they respond when an effort is made to make them understand the rules,”Kumar said.
Stating that he was planning for a long time to manage the traffic one day at the busy Chalukya circle near Vidhana Soudha manually, he said,”I have managed traffic at Modi junction and Navarang circle on various occasions, like during rains and traffic jams.
When I saw the Bengaluru traffic police’s announcement on social media that any citizen can become a traffic police for a day, I enrolled myself.”
He accepted the police department’s invitation to temporarily work alongside traffic staff and personally experience their day-to-day issues.
He stressed that strict adherence to traffic rules is essential to reduce accidents.
He urged the public to wear ISI-marked helmets,avoid overspeeding,refrain from stopping vehicles on zebra crossings,and follow all traffic signals.
“Accidents occur mainly because people fail to follow basic traffic rules.If rules are followed,accident numbers will drop significantly,”he said.
He also warned citizens not to treat fines merely as a penalty but as a reminder of the risks involved.“A head injury or broken limb can change your life forever.
Our life and safety are in our own hands,”he added, appealing to the public to prioritise road safety.
He also said that his experience from 9 am to 11 am on Tuesday helped him understand the issues faced by a traffic constable and thanked the traffic police for the initiative and the opportunity.
I have told the traffic police that i will be with them for an hour every Monday to support and help them in managing or controlling the traffic. It’s a good experience in life,”he added.
BJP leaders,Sudarshan,Girish Gowda,Kamadhenu,Yeshas,Manju,Suresh,Umesh,Sanjay Kumar,Amit Jain,Mohan Raj,and Gopi were present.
