Police took several members of Left student organisations into custody on Saturday after they attempted to march towards the Election Commission office from Freedom Park to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The demonstration was jointly organised by the All India Students’ Association (AISA),Students’Federation of India (SFI),All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) and All India Students’ Federation (AISF).
According to the organisers, police stopped the march shortly after it began and prevented the protesters from proceeding towards the Election Commission office, located a few hundred metres away.
Police barricaded access roads and deployed additional personnel to prevent the demonstrators from advancing.
Several protesters were taken into custody after they allegedly attempted to bypass the police barricades.
The student organisations criticised the police action and maintained that their agitation against the SIR process would continue until their demands were met.
