A dramatic attempt to abduct a 21-year-old married woman from her rented house in Dasarahalli was allegedly part of a plot by her relatives to take her to Hyderabad and marry her off to another relative,police investigation has revealed.
The Magadi Road police have arrested six people in connection with the incident including a woman,while the car driver who allegedly helped execute the abduction remains absconding.
The woman,identified as Pooja,a native of Rajasthan, had fallen in love with Omprakash,who belonged to the same caste but a different sub-caste.Her family had opposed their relationship and refused to accept their marriage.
Despite the opposition,Pooja married Omprakash around seven months ago and subsequently left Rajasthan with him for Bengaluru.The couple had been staying in a rented house in Dasarahalli.
Senior officer told reporters that Pooja’s family and relatives were opposed to the marriage and allegedly wanted to separate the couple and take her back to Rajasthan.
They later allegedly planned to take her to Hyderabad and marry her to a relative,Kannaiyalal.
Kannaiyalal allegedly made arrangements to trace Pooja’s whereabouts in Bengaluru and bring her to Hyderabad.
He allegedly hired four men from Rajasthan and sent them to Bengaluru to execute the plan.
The four allegedly arrived in the city by car, stayed at a lodge and began searching for Pooja’s residence.About a week ago,they allegedly entered her house in Dasarahalli,forcibly brought her out and put her in a car.
When Pooja raised an alarm for help,local residents attempted to stop the vehicle.The driver,identified as Saddam,allegedly drove the car recklessly in an attempt to escape,resulting in a series of accidents along the road.
Several vehicles were damaged and six people, including two children, were injured in the incident.Public intervention eventually brought the car to a halt,and Pooja was rescued.Saddam,however, fled from the spot.
Among the injured was Jayalakshmi,who suffered serious injuries and is still undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The Magadi Road police initially arrested Kiran Ayan and Rajesh,both from Rajasthan,and continued their investigation.
The probe subsequently revealed the alleged involvement of Pooja’s relatives.
Police have now arrested her uncle Andarao,her relative Kannaiyalal,who was residing in Hyderabad,and her aunt Panidevi.With these arrests,the total number of accused arrested in the case has risen to six.
The police are continuing their search for Saddam,who has remained absconding since the incident,while have taken the trio into custody for further investigations.
