The Karnataka government has suspended an Assistant Drugs Controller of the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA),amid an ongoing investigation into a fake medicine racket.
N.Omkareshwar,Assistant Drugs Controller,Circle-1,has been placed under suspension through a government order in connection with the case involving Krupa Health Care in Chamarajpet.
The action follows allegations of dereliction of duty and negligence in taking appropriate regulatory action against the healthcare establishment.
The suspension comes at a time when authorities are intensifying their investigation into the manufacture,sale and distribution of spurious medicines.
Sources said this is the first suspension of an FDA official in connection with the ongoing probe into the fake drug network.
The government reportedly conducted a departmental-level review of the officer’s role before issuing the suspension order.
Sources indicated that further action could be initiated against more officials and establishments in the coming days as the investigation into the fake medicine racket progresses.
