Delhi: The International Council for Journalists (ICJ) has cautioned the public and its members against dealing with Raveendran, who was recently removed as the organisation’s Kerala Region president, particularly if he attempts to use the ICJ’s name, designation or identity to threaten, pressure or collect money from individuals.
The ICJ, in a notice dated August 26, 2026, terminated Raveendran’s appointment with immediate effect and directed him to stop representing himself as an office-bearer or authorised functionary of the organisation.
According to the notice, Rs.1.75 lakh was allegedly received by Raveendran in 2024 from ICJ National Director Binish Thomas towards establishing and operating the organisation’s Kerala office.
The organisation said repeated requests for accounts, supporting documents and details regarding utilisation of the funds had not received a satisfactory response.
The ICJ has also referred to complaints alleging that money was collected from individuals using its name, designation and identity without proper authorisation.
The organisation said such allegations would be verified and that appropriate action could follow.
Following his termination,Raveendran has been prohibited from using the ICJ’s name,logo,letterhead or designation,or from collecting money on behalf of the organisation without prior written authorisation.
The ICJ has directed him to provide a detailed clarification and relevant records and refund the amount within 15 days of receiving the notice.
It has warned that continued unauthorised use of its identity or failure to comply could lead to civil or criminal action before the competent authorities.
The ICJ has urged anyone who receives threats, pressure, demands for money or other communications from Raveendran in the name of the organisation to immediately verify his claim with authorised ICJ office-bearers and report the matter to the organisation.
This wording makes the warning strong while distinguishing documented allegations and the ICJ’s directions from any independent finding that Raveendran has committed blackmail or extortion.
