*Despite directives,140 out of a total of 222 streetlight poles were non-functional lights.
H.V.Ramesh,serving as Executive Engineer (Electrical) in Bengaluru Central City Corporation,is a responsible officer whose primary duty is to ensure the proper maintenance and supervision of streetlights under his jurisdiction.
During an inspection of streetlights conducted personally by the Greater Bengaluru Development Minister,Krishna Byre Gowda,on the evening of August 28,2026,along the road from Hudson Circle to Chalukya Circle,it was found that 140 out of a total of 222 streetlight poles had non-functional lights.
In this regard,the Greater Bengaluru Development Minister, Krishna Byre Gowda,had already held two meetings and directed officials to ensure strict and effective maintenance of streetlights,without any lapses or deficiencies.
At a meeting chaired by the Minister on August 4,2026, officials were once again specifically directed to pay greater attention to the issue.
Despite these repeated instructions and directions from the Minister,the officer failed to ensure proper maintenance of the streetlights.
Accordingly,Executive Engineer (Electrical) H.V.Ramesh has been suspended with immediate effect today (Tuesday) for dereliction of duty.
