A woman allegedly died after being assaulted by her husband during a domestic dispute,following which the husband died by suicide at their residence in the Rajagopal Nagar police station limits on Friday night.
The couple,identified as Sumant Jain and his wife Padmavathi,reportedly quarrelled on Friday night.
During the argument,Sumant allegedly assaulted Padmavathi,causing her to sustain a severe injury to her face.She reportedly fell unconscious.
When Sumant tried to revive her,he allegedly realised that she was no longer breathing.
Fearing the consequences,he reportedly called his mother and informed her about the incident before taking the extreme step.
Sumant allegedly sent a message to his mother and later hanged himself from a ceiling fan in the hall of the house.
His mother noticed the message only after some time and immediately alerted the house owner.
The house was checked following the mother’s information,and Sumant was found dead.The Rajagopal Nagar police were subsequently alerted.
Police reached the spot,registered a case and began an investigation.Further details regarding the circumstances leading to the deaths are awaited.
