A 45-year-old man allegedly strangled his two minor daughters at a hotel near Bengaluru airport following a marital dispute and disagreement over their custody, police said on Tuesday.
DCP Northeast,G.K.Mithun Kumar said the accused, identified as Imran,has confessed to killing his daughters,aged around 10 and 8 years.
Police have also recovered a note allegedly written by him,in which he referred to the dispute with his wife and the issue of custody of the children.
According to police,Imran had checked into the hotel two days ago along with his daughters.
On Monday around 4 pm,hotel cleaning staff went to the room but received no response.Security personnel were alerted and,after opening the room,found the two girls lying unresponsive on the bed.Imran was found lying inside the bathroom.
The girls were rushed for examination,while Imran was shifted to a hospital for treatment.Police said he is currently out of danger.
“Prima facie,the children were killed through strangulation,”DCP Mithun Kumar said, adding that the exact cause of death would be confirmed through the post-mortem reports.
Police have also spoken to Imran’s wife,who reportedly confirmed that the couple had been facing marital disputes and had arguments over the custody of their children.
The DCP said police have secured the accused and are continuing the investigation to ascertain the complete sequence of events and examine whether there were any other angles to the case.
