A 49-year-old daily wage labourer has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to garbage that spread to a cattle shed and nearby shops,resulting in the death of five cows and destruction of property in the DJ Halli police station limits of east Bengaluru.
The incident occurred in the early hours of April 7 near a cattle shed and adjacent plywood shops.
Senior officer told reporters,the fire quickly spread, gutting two plywood shops and destroying one Tata Ace vehicle and four two-wheelers parked nearby.
Based on a complaint,a case was registered at DJ Halli Police Station and a detailed investigfations led to tracking down the accused,identified as Irfan Pasha,a resident of the KG Halli area.
He was apprehended based on credible inputs and later confessed during interrogation.
He further said the accused admitted to having a habit of setting fire to garbage.On the day of the incident,he allegedly set fire to waste at the spot,which spread uncontrollably to the nearby cattle shed,leading to the death of five cows and extensive property damage.
The total loss in the incident is estimated at around ₹15.20 lakh.
However,police are not fully convinced with the accused’s claim that the act was unintentional.He told investigators that he lit the fire to scare away stray dogs, but CCTV footage reportedly shows him deliberately setting fire and then leaving the spot.
Officials suspect the possibility of intentional wrongdoing and are probing further to determine whether there was any ulterior motive behind the act.the angel is police probed keeping the sabotage in mind.
Their angle of investigation is that someone wanted to create a communal disturbance and set fire to cattle shed.
