Taking strong exception to a recent incident of reckless riding,City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh has announced a special drive to curb traffic violations and indiscipline on city roads.
The move comes after three doctors,including a woman, were booked for allegedly creating a ruckus while riding triple and under the influence of alcohol.
The accused had reportedly been celebrating the completion of their Master of Science (MS) in Orthopaedics.
The incident occurred around 10 pm on Sunday on 16th Main Road,between BTM Layout and Jayadeva Junction. Two of the riders were not wearing helmets at the time of the incident.
Senior officer told reporters that the the trio was riding a two-wheeler recklessly and causing disturbance on the road.One of them was riding pillion.
Night patrol personnel have been instructed to maintain strict vigil.Officials said that instead of chasing violators, police will record such acts and pass on the information to the concerned jurisdictional units for further action.
“Strict action will be taken,including booking cases and seizing vehicles,to ensure traffic discipline and responsible road behaviour,”the Commissioner said.
He also expressed concern that individuals involved in such incidents belong to educated and respectable professions but lack basic traffic and civic sense.
