Ten UPS batteries installed for signals streetlights and surveillance cameras stolen in Electronic City probe on

Unknown persons allegedly stole ten UPS batteries installed for traffic signals,streetlights and surveillance cameras in the Electronics City area during the early hours of February 25.

According to the complaint filed by S.R.Jayachandra,a supervisor working for private company,which is engaged in maintenance the batteries which provide power supply to traffic signals,CCTV cameras and streetlights in the locality.

As part of the arrangement,six UPS batteries had been kept in an iron box near Hokel Company Road and four batteries were placed along the roadside near Sharathpura Main Road.

In the early hours of February 25,around 3 am,the streetlights,cameras and traffic signals installed in the area suddenly stopped functioning.

Technicians were called to inspect the system at around 7.30 am,during which it was discovered that all ten UPS batteries had gone missing.

Suspecting theft,the company officials verified the matter with their senior management and the L&T Turnkey authorities before approaching the Electronic City Police Station to lodge a complaint.

The police have registered a case and are investigating the theft.

This is the second incident as traffic signal batteries have been stolen on February 9, 2026 involving six batteries from Hosa Road and Konappana Agrahara junctions.

These thefts,often by organized groups selling them as scrap,cause significant traffic disruption and damage, with previous cases including the theft of 230 batteries worth Rs.20 lakh.
