In a case that has become a challenge for the police, two girl students from Vidyaranyapura in north Bengaluru have been missing for over a month, raising concerns that they may have fled fearing upcoming examinations.
The missing students have been identified as Tanishka, a second PU student, and Tejaswini, a first PU student.
Both went missing on January 31, following which their families immediately lodged a complaint at the Vidyaranyapura Police Station.
Left Home Without Phones or Money
According to police sources, the girls left their mobile phones at home and did not carry ATM cards or cash.
However, they reportedly took their Aadhaar cards and college bags before leaving.Investigators suspect they may have used their Aadhaar cards to travel on free bus services meant for students.
Despite conducting searches at more than 50 locations, police have not been able to trace their whereabouts so far.
Exam Fear Angle Under Probe
Family members suspect that fear of examinations may have prompted the girls to leave home.Notably,Tanishka had allegedly injured her hand last year in an attempt to avoid exams.
With examinations approaching again this year, she is believed to have left home along with her junior friend.
A few days after going missing, the girls reportedly called some friends and claimed they were at the Male Mahadeshwara Hills. They told their friends that they would call again in a week. However, there has been no contact since then.
Habeas Corpus Petition Filed
With no breakthrough in the case, the families have approached the Karnataka High Court by filing a habeas corpus petition. The court has reportedly granted the police a week’s time to trace the missing students.
The families, meanwhile, remain distraught and continue to appeal for information that could help locate the girls. Police have intensified their efforts and are examining all possible angles, including assistance from transport authorities and CCTV footage analysis.
