A 46-year-old woman is battling for her life,while a man sustained burn injuries after a gas cylinder explosion at Manjunatha Layout within the K.R.Puram police station limits on Monday evening.
The injured have been identified as Poornima,a homemaker and owner of a three-storey building,who suffered severe burn injuries,and Venkatesh (46),a labourer and tenant residing on the third floor of the building.
According to the police,the third floor houses two rooms.At around 7 pm,Venkatesh noticed a gas leak from the adjoining room and alerted Poornima.
When she opened the door,she reportedly switched on the light as the room was dark,triggering the explosion.
In an attempt to rescue Poornima,Venkatesh also suffered burn injuries.Both were rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control,police added.
