Explosives material found in Bengaluru, Hulimavu Police avert major tragedy

The Hulimavu police recovered huge cache of explosive materials found in a densely populated area of the city on Tuesday.

The incident was reported from Akshayanagar,which falls under the limits of the Hulimavu police station.

Senior officer told reporters that gelatin sticks were being illegally used to break rocks at a 100×100 ft site owned by one Chandru,without obtaining the mandatory permissions.

The blasting activity was allegedly carried out between 10.30 am and 2 pm in a busy residential locality,posing a serious threat to public safety.

Upon receiving information,Hulimavu police rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection.

During the operation,the police seized 15 gelatin sticks and 30 detonators from the site.A tractor and a JCB machine used at the spot were also taken into custody.

Further said that the daily wage labourers working at the site fled the area as soon as the police arrived.

Due to the timely intervention of the Hulimavu police,a major mishap that could have resulted in loss of lives was averted.

Following the incident,a bomb disposal squad was pressed into service and is currently examining the site.

A case has been registered at the Hulimavu police station against site owner Chandru for illegally storing and using explosives.

Police officials stated that strict legal action would be initiated against those responsible for using dangerous explosives in a crowded area without permission or safety measures.

The bomb squad will submit a detailed report on the source of the explosives,based on which further legal proceedings will be carried out.
