A 65-year-old woman was found murdered at her residence near the KAS Colony,close to Silk Board,under the limits of the Mico Layout police station,in the early hours of Saturday.
The accused, identified as Devaraju (50),who was employed as a domestic help at the house,was later found hanging inside the same premises in an apparent suicide.
Senior officer told reporters that the incident occurred around midnight.The matter came to light at around 4.30 am when the victim’s husband,who had returned from Dubai early Saturday morning, reached the house and rang the doorbell.
The couple’s 27-year-old daughter,who was on the first floor,opened the door and returned to her room.
When the husband went to his wife Sarita’s room,he found her dead,following which the police were alerted.
At the time of the incident,the victim’s daughter was also present in the house but was in her room on the first floor.
During investigation it was said Devaraju,who had been working at the house,is suspected to have murdered the woman and later died by suicide by hanging.
However,investigators have not ruled out other possibilities and are probing whether the deaths were the result of murder followed by suicide or if any third party was involved.
Mico Layout police along with senior officers visited the spot and conducted an initial inspection.A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) also arrived at the scene and carried out a detailed examination of the house.
Both bodies have been shifted for post-mortem examination. A case of murder has been registered,and statements from family members have been recorded.
Speaking to the media,East Zone Joint Commissioner of Police Ramesh Banoth said that further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
