Two construction workers lost their lives after falling from an under-construction apartment building at Shobha Dreams Apartments on Balagere Road,within the limits of Varthur police station,on Wednesday evening.
The deceased have been identified as Sathya Kumar (lift operator)and Muttappa (electrician/lift mechanic),both daily-wage labourers employed at the construction site being executed under the name of SS VR Construction.
Senior officer told reporters that the incident occurred around 5 pm while the workers were installing a lift in the building,which is still under construction.
A material supply lift reportedly collapsed,causing both men to fall from a height,leading to fatal injuries on the spot.
Varthur police rushed to the location and conducted a preliminary inspection.The bodies were shifted to the Vydehi Hospital mortuary,where post-mortem examinations are scheduled for Thursday morning.
On January 29,the wife of Sathya Kumar lodged a complaint,alleging gross negligence on the part of the contractor, identified as Sudheer,and the site engineer.
Based on the complaint,the police have registered a case of death due to negligence under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Further investigation is underway to ascertain lapses in safety measures at the construction site and to fix responsibility for the fatal accident said a senior officer.
