Bengaluru woman uses GPS tracker installed in key holder inside bag to outsmart bag thief arrested by Sadashivanagar police in record time recovered stolen items intact

A 39-year-old woman managed to track down a thief and recover her stolen bag within hours with the help of a GPS tracker.

Senior officer told reporters that the incident occurred on January 16,2026,around 10.30 am,near Third Wave Cafe on 13th Main Road in Sadashivanagar.

The complainant,Asha Suparna,had parked her car on the roadside and stepped into a nearby coffee shop.

She had reportedly forgotten to lock the vehicle,during which time an unidentified person opened the car door, stole a bag kept inside and fled the spot.

The stolen bag contained Rs.40,000 in cash,a wallet, mobile charger,medicines,house keys,ID cards,a notebook and other personal belongings.

A GPS tracker installed in a key holder inside the bag helped the complainant trace its movement towards the Rajajinagar area.

The woman immediately approached the Sadashivanagar Police Station and alerted the police.

Acting swiftly on the GPS location,the police along with the complainant,traced the bag in Rajajinagar and recovered it with all the belongings intact.

During interrogation,the accused disclosed his identity as Prakash.He was taken into custody and brought to the Sadashivanagar Police Station in the early hours of January 17,at around 1.15 am,for further investigation.

Police are probing whether the accused is involved in similar theft cases.
