A man allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison at the entrance of the Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday, accusing the police of harassment after he exposed the presence of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
The individual has been identified as Dr.Nagendrapppa, who had reportedly submitted information regarding illegal Bangladeshi residents in the city.
He alleged that following this,he was subjected to continuous harassment by personnel of the Soladevanahalli Police Station.
According to sources,Dr.Nagendrapppa,distressed over the alleged harassment,consumed poison near the main gate of the Vidhana Soudha.
Police personnel present at the spot noticed him consuming the substance and immediately intervened, snatching the poison bottle from his hand.
He was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital by the police for medical treatment.His condition is said to be stable.
Senior officials have stated that the incident is being looked into,and further inquiry is underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to the suicide attempt.
